Carles Górriz, professor in the Department of Private Law, received this year's UAB Teaching Excellence Award today at an institutional ceremony in which Vice Rector for Studies and Quality Tatiana Rovira, praised his values as a teacher, highlighting his ability to "transmit curiosity" to students, which is precisely what makes us "passionate" about knowledge.

Rovira explained that, in this sixth edition of the award, eleven candidatures from nine different centres were presented, which shows that it is a "consolidated award". The vice-rector broke down the values that the jury particularly highlighted when distinguishing Professor Górriz, such as his institutional involvement, the innovative nature of his teaching, and the very favorable results he obtains in the student assessment surveys. The president of the Academic Committee of the UAB Social Council, Montserrat López, emphasised that the teaching excellence that Górriz represents is "vital for providing students with professional skills" and extended her recognition to all the University's teaching staff for their work in this regard.

Górriz was introduced by his sponsor, Professor of International Public Law Josep Maria de Dios, who described him as "a magnificent teacher and a great person". According to De Dios, before this institutional recognition, Górriz had already obtained "the recognition of the students" with details such as the fact of having sponsored numerous promotions of the Faculty of Law. With this distinction, he said, "we are highlighting the merits that every professor must take into account in his work".

Górriz took the floor to give a master class in which he explained how he would introduce his students to the subject of ompetition law, explaining the five types of unlawful agreements that are contemplated in this field and dynamising a practical session based on the case of the European Commission's action against Apple. Prfessor Górriz thanked his colleagues, faculty, administrative staff and students for their collaboration, and defended the importance of teaching in an entertaining way, encouraging argumentation and stimulating mutual learning because, to quote Robert Heinlein, "when one teaches, two learn".

The award, aimed at all UAB lecturers with more than ten years of dedication, has an economic endowment of 5,000 euros spread over two years, which will be used to improve teaching. This distinction reaches its sixth edition this year. In previous editions, it was awarded to Sònia Parella, Gemma Puigvert, Sergi Robles, Carme Mangiron and Sònia Casillas.
