Xavier Ballart, new dean of the Faculty of Politicial Science and Sociology

Ballart holds a PhD from the UAB and is Professor of Political Science and Administration. He also holds a Master's degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University and was a "La Caixa" postdoctoral fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He has taught semester courses at Indiana University, the College of Europe (Bruges), the University of Montpellier, the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI) and, in shorter formats, at several higher education institutions in Latin America. He has also collaborated with the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank IADB-BID.

He is a member of the Institute of Government and Public Policy (IGOP) of the UAB. He was director of the Department of Political Science and Public Law, coordinator of the Master's Degree in Public Management (UAB-UB-UPF) and first secretary-editor of the Spanish Journal of Political Science (Revista Española de Ciencia Política). His early research interests focused on public policy evaluation and administrative innovation and reform. In recent years, he has worked on public service motivation and public service performance analysis, particularly in the field of primary health care. The Dean's Team is made up by Francesc Muñoz, secretary and coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance System; Dafne Muntanyola, Vice Dean of TFG and Professionalisation; Oriol Costa, Vice Dean of Academic Organisation; Ana Mar Fernández, Vice Dean of Economics and Services; Francesc Serra, coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in International Relations and Vice Dean of Exchanges and Institutional Relations; Guillem Rico, coordinator of the bachelor's degree in Political Science and Public Management and the double degree in Political Science and Public Management + Law; Joel Martí, coordinator of the bachelor's degree in Sociology and the double degrees in Applied Statistics + Sociology and Political Science and Public Management + Sociology; and Carolina Galais, coordinator of Communication.

This was the first election of the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology according to the Organic Law of the University System, in force since last year, which establishes the system of universal suffrage weighted among the entire community of the centre and sets the term of office of the holders of elected unipersonal bodies in six non-renewable and non-extendable years. Ballart, who was the only candidate in these elections, thus takes over from Professor Olga Serradell, dean of the Faculty from 2021 until now.
