POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH INTENSIFICATION CONTRACTS
Final list
1. Objective
The objective of this competition is to award postdoctoral contracts for the incorporation of researchers in research groups with a researcher in receipt of a grant for intensifying investigation by young researchers within the framework of Programme I3.
2. Eligibility
In order to be eligible for this competition, applicants must fulfil the following requirements:
a) Hold a doctorate qualification obtained after 1 July 1998 from a university other than the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (the date of obtaining the qualification is understood as the date on which the thesis was presented and accepted), or after 1 July 1997 if, before the end of the acceptance period for the grant, it can be justified that after this date the candidate has been on maternity leave, caring for a child of less than 6 years of age or caring for a person with a
physical, mental or sensorial disability, or for a person older than sixty-five who depend on the candidate and requirement special treatment.
b) Candidates who obtained their doctorate from the UAB in the periods indicated above are also eligible if they can show that they have spent a postdoctoral period at other universities or research centres for a minimum of two years at the time of incorporation.
c) Candidates who have not been contracted or received grants from the UAB in the two years immediately preceding this competition notice.
d) The specific requirements of the position.
3. Period and duration
The grants are for a period of three years which may not be extended, except in the case of the type of interruption outlined in section 13 of this competition. Incorporation must take place before 31 December 2008 on the signing of the corresponding employment contract.
The period of the contract with the UAB is one of obligatory minimum-stay.
4. Amount and payment
The gross annual amount of the grant is €25,567 per year. Payment is made in 14 instalments per year.
5. Rights of contracted research staff
a) To receive the amount corresponding to the contract in the form established in section 4 of this competition notice.
b) To obtain the necessary help and support from the University for carrying out the research task.
c) To enjoy all rights of intellectual and industrial property deriving from the research activity that corresponds to them, according to current legislation and regulations.
d) To use the services offered by the University and take part in the all its activities in accordance with the internal regulations of the UAB.
e) To enjoy all rights and social benefits that are available to the academic staff at the UAB.
6. Obligations of beneficiaries
a) To follow the directives established by their director (the researcher in receipt of a grant for intensifying research within the framework of the I3 Programme).
b) To apply for the corresponding permission that allows an employment contract to be signed according to the terms established in the current legislation and the calendar indicated in section 3 of this competition notice.
c) To comply with the internal rules and regulations of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, as well as those of the department in which they are working.
d) Teach a total of 60 hours per year on the teaching collaboration programme, for training purposes.
e) Include the official name of the host institution, and therefore the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, on all scholarly production during their period at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and on all works published at any time and in any scholarly media.
7. Obligations of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
a) To sign a full time employment contract with the beneficiary, in accordance with current regulations for a maximum
period of three years.
b) To provide the contracted researcher with the support and means necessary for carrying out their activity, and to guarantee that they receive the rights and services received by staff in the same or a similar category.
c) To detect any possible incompatibilities.
8. Incompatibilities of the contract
a) Being a beneficiary of this programme is incompatible with any contractual or statutory link that may affect exclusivity of dedication. In cases where this incompatibility arises, the university will proceed to withdraw the contract.
b) Earnings from teaching tasks (courses, conferences and papers) or research tasks (books or articles) that are directly associated with the research being carried out by the beneficiary are authorised as long as they are sporadic and not regular. Authorisation is given by the Vice Rector’s Office for Research.
c) The contract signed does not imply any commitment by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona to employ the beneficiary on the staff of the UAB at a later date.
9. Applications and deadline
a) Each applicant can present their candidature for more than one place, but a separate application must be made for each place. Applicants should therefore indicate on the application form the reference of the place they are applying for and where appropriate, the order of preference.
b) The deadline for application is 30 September 2008.
c) The application form should be presented at the general Registry of the UAB (Rectorate building) together with the
following documentation:
− DNI or passport
− Academic transcript
− Curriculum vitae
− Doctorate certificate
10. Selection and evaluation criteria
− The selection of candidates is carried out by the researchers in receipt of an I3 research intensification award included in the competition in accordance with the following criteria:
− Academic transcript
− Curriculum vitae
− Appropriateness of the candidate to the description of the place applied for.
11. Announcement of decision
The final decision on the competition will be made public in the month of October.

12. Signing of the contract
Once the final lists are published, selected candidates must sign their contracts. To this end, they should present the following documents to the Office of Academic and Research Staff of the UAB at least 7 days before the forecast start date:
a) copy of DNI or passport accompanied by NIE,
b) an attested copy of all the documentation requested in section 10 of this competition notice,
c) photocopy of the Social Security number (where this is not available, it should be requested from the General Treasurer's Office of the Social Security Department),
d) bank details,
e) two passport-sized photographs,
f) in the case of non-EU community, the work permit that allows an employment agreement to be signed (international.welcome.point@uab.cat).
13. Interruptions
a) Leave for maternity, adoption or pre-adoption periods or the permanent care of children less than six years old will be for the legally established periods for each of these cases.
b) In accordance with current legislation, the contract will be extended for the same period of time as it was suspended
for the reasons detailed in the previous point.
14. Substitutions
Absences caused by resignation from the post or other reasons among the contracted research staff may be covered by people on the reserve list.
The period between the start date and the incorporation of a substitute is recoverable.
15. Appeal
Within a period of ten calendar days counted from the day after the publication of the provisional list of selected candidates, those who wish to may present the appeals that they consider to be appropriate to the Research Management Office.
In opposition to the decisions taken in response to the appeals presented, those who wish to do so may present a higher appeal to the Rectorate, within a maximum period of one month.
In accordance with the provisions of article 111 of Law 30/1992, of 26 September, on the legal systems of the public administration and common administrative procedure, the interposition of recourses against the agreement and decision of the competent bodies does not obligatorily postpone the contested acts from being carried out.
16. Data protection
Data provided by candidates is included in a file of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona for the purpose of managing the process of processing the applications and awarding the contracts.
In accordance with the provision of Organic Law 15/1999, of 13 December, for the protection of personal data, those who wish to do so may exercise their right to access, rectify or cancel their details before the Secretary General of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
