EMIGRA is a Research Group on childhood and education in migration contexts to study the dimensions and impact of cultural diversity and social inequality in changing societies of southern Europe, and in situations of border between the EU and North Africa and between the U.S. and Mexico. Is interested, therefore, the processes of minority children and youth of the population considers the analysis interseccional developed from the perspective of gender, 'race' and class. More information www.mgf.uab.es “The aim of the Interdisciplinary Research Group for the Prevention and Study of Harmful Traditional Practices (GIPE/PTP) is thedevelopment of a program of research applied to social knowledge transfer that enables the establishment, in The Gambia and Spain, of a comprehensive strategy to prevent Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting”. Since 1987, within the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the PI, Prof. Adriana Kaplan, initiated pioneering field work on Senegambian migrations in Spain. This innovative methodological approach proposes circular research in the transnational space of migrations and, at the same time, longitudinal regarding development of acculturation and social integration processes, in aspects related to alimentation and sexual and reproductive health, both in countries of origin and destination of the sub-Saharan migrants. >> More
GIRHAC - Interdisciplinar Group of History, Ambiental and Cultural Research More information http://www.albarradas.espol.edu.ec For decades members of this group, jointly or individually, are conducting research in the field of socio-environmental knowledge, especially that related to the history and application of pre-Columbian technologies for water management in South America. Studies on field ridges, camanchaca (coastal fog) amb albarradas or jagüeys have been conducted in the coastal region of Ecuador since 1980 with an interdisciplinary and comparative approach, especially from anthropology (archeology and ethnography). These studies were conducted pilot projects replanting of crops in ridged fields in the Baja Cuenca del Guayas and recovery of local knowledge on modern cultural adaptation, with support from cooperative organizations and international institutions (1980-1986, AID, USA). In the case of the Peninsula of Santa Elena in Ecuador, has been constructed and developed since 1986 Complejo Cultural Real Alto in the Commune Pechiche, which currently operates as a research, participatory workshops, educational outreach and recreational activities native communities. It has a major arboretum preserving native species disappeared with the drought, and a museum that reflects the cultural and environmental history of the region. Throughout these decades, national and international support, there have been numerous publications on collective management of natural resources, delving into the ancient knowledge of the environment, and impacts of El Niño events in the development of ethnic territories with community organization.>> More
GRAFO - Anthropology and Fundamental Oriented Research Group More information http://grupsderecerca.uab.cat/grafo GRAFO (Research Group in Fundamental and Oriented Anthropology), aims to contribute to broader theoretical foundation of anthropology, by reflection on the ontological assumptions, epistemological and methodological research that underlie the members of the group, through the effort in the conceptualization and development of instruments that underlie the match between research designs and techniques used and combining theoretical and methodological critique. Another principle was shared valuing particular work aimed at transforming the socio-cultural conditions, with a conception of applied anthropology whose horizon limit the action research, although we are willing to accept varying degrees of approach the limit, always from a position of epistemological critique. >> More

El grup comparteix una intensa trajectòria en investigació socioantropològica dels fenòmens educatius i es planteja seguir treballant en alguns reptes actuals del seu interès i competència, com ara la necessitat de definir un domini teòric i metodològic propi de l'etnografia de l'educació i de l'antropologia de l'educació des d'una perspectiva interdisciplinar; l'absència de grups interdisciplinars d'investigacio en l'àmbit de l'antropologia l'etnografia i l'educació; la creixent demanda des de l'àmbit educatiu de continguts i metodologies pròpies de l'antropologia; la necessitat de conèixer la realitat educativa en contextos multiculturals i d'immigració per precisar diagnòstics i per afavorir la convivencia quotidiana; la necessitat de disposar de criteris qualitatius fonamentats per a l'elaboració de propostes educatives entorn de la interculturalitat o la responsabilitat d'incloure la desigualtat social, econòmica i cultural de manera explícita en els plantejaments i propostes d'educació intercultural. >> More |
