Brief History

The Graduate School at the Autonomous University was founded in 1994 under the rectorate of Carles Solà. However, the seed for this project had been planted earlier by a group of professors who were familiar with the Anglo-American model of tertiary education, and who viewed the creation of the Graduate School as the way for UAB to become an international reference.

Thus, the Graduate and Continuing Education School was born, and its leadership was entrusted to Dr. Carles Perelló. The main goal at this early stage was to coordinate UAB's graduate studies and provide administrative support to the different academic departments. Nonetheless, soon after its creation, the Graduate School assumed responsibility for the promotion and quality control of such studies, meant as a contribution of the university towards the progress of society. On February 28, 2000, the recently restored Catalan farmhouse, the "masía" Can Miró, was inaugurated.

Immediately after, the School became both the leader and the engine of a new educational environment in which graduate studies (Masters, PhD's and continuing education) are increasingly valued by a society that demands highly specialized professionals and researchers applying the latest knowledge.

The Graduate School enters the 21st. Century strongly committed to innovation and immersed in a new reality in which learning has become a life-long activity.
