Access to the PhD

You may apply to the UAB PhD Programmes from several curricular options:

 New Doctoral Studies (EHEA)
PhD Programmes regulated by RD 778/1998

Official PhD studies aim to provide advanced training in research techniques, including writing and defending the Doctoral Thesis or Dissertation, which is an original research project.

This training may be structured through courses, seminars, or other research training activities (RD 56/2005).

New Applicants

1. Students under the new regulations

1.1. Admission for students who have taken PhD courses and completed the research training stage under RD 778/1998 or RD 185/1985.

A student from a PhD programme regulated by RD 778/1998 or RD 185/85 will be able to change to the PhD studies regulated RD 1393/2007 provided they have successfully completed the research training stage.

Students who have taken PhD courses and completed the research training stage at another Spanish university must also follow these procedures.

If the dissertation has not been registered yet, the student will not be considered as having entered the dissertation stage and thus must request admission to the new PhD studies.(see item Newly Admitted Students ).

If the dissertation has already been registered, the student may request to change to the new PhD studies, as stated in the General Procedures for New Students, by submitting the specific application form to change.

In this case, and for the purpose of computing the terms indicated in the regulatory framework of the PhD studies, the dissertation registration date will be maintained.

1.2. Admission for students who have been admitted into a PhD programme under RD 56/2005 who wish to change to a PhD programme under RD 1393/2007
