Contemporary social change appears as intense, quick processes paired with the complexity of social phenomena, intensified inequalities and the emergence of new risks of vulnerability and social exclusion requiring new ways of social policy implementation, new ways to relate within organizations and the creation of innovative answers in the inter-disciplinary area of social intervention.

On the other hand, recent legal changes in social services in Spain offer an opportunity, not excempt from risks, to review current practices in social intervention so that they may support proximity, community articulation and civil development.

Since the academic year 2005-2006, the Master in Social and Community Policy has been consolidating into a structure that combines theoretical content renewed by the Institute¿s research experience in innovative social initiatives. At the same time, group practices have become exchange experiences between the tutored groups and the admnistrations involved. Thus the Master has created an inter-disciplinary training environment including the IGOP team (politologists, sociologist, environmentalists, geographers, social psychologists....), faculty from other UAB departments, in addition to participating professionals from the EU and public administration. Also, in a more institutional context, the transformation of the IGOP into a UAB University Institute makes it possible for the university to have a training programme of which this Master is one of the elements providing the best possible link between research activities and training of researchers and academics.

- Bachelor's and Associate's degree in Social and Human Sciences.
- Bachelor's and Associate's degrees in other areas with experience in community work or social policies.

The programme covers the tools used for the design, implementation and analysis of social policies for carrying out projects in the area of public management , social research and community work.

Training in community mediation offers the opportunity for practical sessions and a transdisciplinary meeting place bringing together life experiences and the communication of conflict.
