The Master in Primary Care Research (MIAP) is an online training programme structured in modules over two years, aimed at providing participants with the necessary tools to understand the scientific method, design research projects and apply the results of medical research to practice.
This Master is designed for family doctors and other health professionals working in primary care. Although it is mostly geared at professionals working in Spain, it is open to foreign professionals as well.
Current medicine is to a great extend management of information from biomedical research. Research is a fundamental activity for progress of any medical specialization, and its results must contribute to improve the quality and efficieny of health care.
Developing this activity is even more important in family medicine, and, in general, in primary health care, given that it is necessary to produce evidence on which to base clinical practice and make diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive recommendations adapted to each environment and the type of people who really receive care.
On the other hand, training in research methods is necessary, not only for research projects, but also to be able to critically evaluate biomedical scientific literature and properly transfer results to daily clinical practice.
Given the limited research tradition in primary care and the lack of proper professional training in this area, the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (semFYC) considered it a priority to develop a program of distance training to make it possible to complete it from any point in the health system.
Bachelor in health sciences, Associate in nursing.
