Postgraduate UAB > Masters and graduate certificates > Nursing and physical therapy > Master in perioperative nursing
The aging population and the development of progressively less invasive and safer techniques have increased and modified the demand for surgical services.
Surgical nursing has been documented providing care and company to patients for a hundred years.
Its role has evidently evolved and developed in parallel to the evolution of the nursing and surgery professions.
Surgical patient safety is the main area of action for the perioperatory nurse: the ability to create and maintain a safe physical environment, the ability to create and maintain physiological safety, ability to learn to deal with the surgical process by the patient and the family, the ability to safeguard the rights and values of the surgical patient.
All theory and practice relative to the surgical environment, materials and instruments, physiological control and assessment of the patient in the surgical process, his learning and active participation in the treatment plan and safeguarding the individual's rights and values, are structured along these fundamental lines.
Essential knowledge to responsibly execute their roles and functions as nurses in the surgical environment.
However, to achieve this responsibility, the nurse must have specific training to help acquire the tools to provide the best care, not only on a technical and technological level, but also on a psychosocial, emotional and spiritual level along the entire process. And that is precisely the challenge of this Master.
