Social change is increasingly happening at the pace of scientific, political, and economic events, affecting everyone on earth both in material as well as moral and ethical aspects.
It is necessary for the Law in general and specially Civil and Family Law to assimilate these changes and come up with solutions in content or frequency for new situations or for those different from traditional situations contemplated by Codes of Law. Thus, the study, analysis and comparison of Civil and Family Law are particularly enriching.
Spain has gone through a deep change in legislation in the last few years. The 1978 Constitution has forced the Spanish Codes of Law to adapt to the principles and rights recognized by it. This adaptation has become evident particularly in civil law, which already is facing new challenges due to the need to change and adapt to international treaties and institutional declarations, and specially the Declaration of Human Rights.
Results are very positive because Spanish codes have been updated with particular changes that are very significant and often themselves cause changes to the traditional legal institutions.
Spanish civil law appears as a leader in dealing with several issues specially relative to family law, and it has demonstrated its ability to respond to new social challenges quicker and more efficiently than other countries more or less culturally linked to Spain, and considered more modern or progressive in regulating social issues. As a member of the EU, Spain also participates in the process of private contract law review taking place jointly in the EU for the purposes of reaching harmonization between the different legal codes.
The International Master in Civil and Family Law is based on the study of internal Spanish law and its comparative analysis, and implemented as the proper method for sharing knowledge and generate debate in the area of civil and family law.
