The group psychotherapy is a voluntary treatment where selected people in accordance with some criteria of inclusion, gather in groups directed by a trained therapist and help themselves to attempt to promote personal changes and/or in their environment so to lighten their psychic suffering.
Starting from a determinate theoretical and practical orientation, the therapist leads the interactions of the group members with the intention of facilitating the processes of change.
The group psychotherapy is brought in practice from the different current paradigms in psychiatry: groups of support, structured, with limits fixation, cognitive - behavioral, interpersonal, family and of dynamic orientation.
In comparison with the individual therapies, two of the main strong points of the group therapy are: the opportunity of immediate feedback for the parents of the patient, and the opportunity of the patient and therapist to check out the psychological, emotional answer and of behavior of the patient with several persons provoking a variety of transfers.
Thus also, in the area of the public sanitary institutions, it is a matter of a type of psychotherapeutic boarding that allows to pay attention to a greater number of patients in the same lapse of time.
