Graduate Certificate in Anaesthesiology
Anaesthesiology is a medical specialization aimed at protecting the patient during the surgical process. Nursing professionals have recently arrived at this specialization, and it has gone from being exclusively a medical specialization and meant to make surgery easier to becoming a branch where nurses take on an important role as anaesthesiology and reanimation assistants.
The work of nurses in this area may cover from patient and family evaluation in pre-surgery visit, to collaborating in patient preparation during the anaesthetic event, and once surgery is done, taking care of the patient in the reanimation units. Likewise, in some hospitals, the chronic and acute pain treatment units are part of the anaesthesiology service.
