During 2008 we have achieved many goals in our libraries. Undoubtedly, the most important has been the implementation of a new integrated library system, Millennium, which offers a wider and better range of benefits than VTLS, the library system we have used since 1991, when library catalog was automated .
This year a new strategic plan for libraries has begun that will guide our activity through 2010. The plan balances the objectives of the traditional library and the digital library, and looks for the best opportunities in order to provide more and better services to our users. It also establish as key success factor the need of implementation of a new organizational model.
The Sala de Revistes of Humanities Library has extended the opening hours during nights and weekends.
Our digital collection is composed of more than 13,000 journals available full-text, nearly 13,000 digital books and numerous databases. It has also been done a major effort to digitize part of our collections, that now are available through DDD, our Digital Repository.
Cooperation is an activity strongly rooted in our Library Service. As a founding member of the Consortium of Academic Libraries of Catalonia, this year the efforts has been concentrated in the achievement of goals that otherwise would not have been so fully reached, such as the consolidated Digital Library of Catalonia and GEPA, the new cooperative depository to conserve and preserve documents.
All goals, small and big, have been reach, as usually, thanks to the teamwork of Library Service staff.
