When will I get my translation or proofs back?
This depends on a number of factors, such as the length and quality of the original, the format, subject, degree of complexity and the volume being handled by the Service at the time. As a guide, one page of proofreading can be returned in 24 hours, and a ten-page text for translation will be returned in 72 hours.
When is a job considered "urgent"? What are the terms?
Jobs which are required within 72 hours are considered to be "urgent". These jobs are subject to a 30% surcharge on the standard rate. The Language Service reserves the right to accept jobs which are considered "urgent" if the length of the text is excessive to guarantee the quality of the service.
In what formats can I send my documents?
The formats that we usually work with are: Word, Excel and PowerPoint for PC, OpenOffice, html, xml, rtf, txt. Please check with us if you wish to submit jobs in other formats.
if the document is very long, you can avoid e-mail delivery problems by compressing it.
If you want to send us a text written in a different format or application (WordPerfect, Mac, etc.), please let us know in advance.
Is it alright to send documents in PowerPoint, Excel, etc.?
Yes. That's fine. We will keep the document in the original format.
I don't want you to start work on my documents yet, but I would like information about the prices.
No problem! Send us the text (or let us know what sort of document it is: language, number of words, etc.) and we will send you an estimate. This estimate will include the cost of the work and the time it will take. In any case, there is no obligation on your part to take the Project any further at this stage.
How will I know you have received the document?
We always answer messages, and usually within a matter of hours at most (Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm). On week days, If you have not received confirmation that we have received your message within 24 hours, please contact us again by e-mail. Please notice that we only reply to messages during working hours.
Can the text be revised directly on-screen?
Yes. This is our usual way of working, and the form of proofreading that we recommend. However, for this to be possible the original must be in Word since we can then show the changes using the 'control changes' tool. When you get your text back, not only will you be able to see all the changes we have made, but you will be able to accept or reject each of them individually without having to rewrite the document.
Is it possible to maintain the original format of the text?
Yes. In fact, unless you request otherwise, we will always maintain the original text format.
Do you work with non-European languages?
No, but if you need a translation/proofreading in any other language, we will be happy to find a reliable solution for you.
How do I pay?
The only way to pay for our services is via bank transfer or, in the case of UAB teaching and research staff, through the cost centre, wherever possible. You can see more information about payment procedures and current rates in the document at the foot of this page.
Can I contact the translator/proof-reader directly while they are working on my document?
Yes, of course. We welcome communication between the author of the text and the translator/proofreader. The first step is to contact us.
I am a student at the UAB (or I am taking a course at the UAB). Can I use this service?
Yes. Of course. However, you will have to pay VAT, unless you pay through one of the UAB cost centres. You can see more information about payment procedures and current rates in the document at the foot of this page.
I am a translator and I am interested in working with you. Can I send you my CV?
Yes, go ahead. We are always interested in meeting new freelance professionals.
What do I do if I am unhappy with my translation/proofreading?
We hope that will never be the case, but if you are unhappy the first thing you should do is contact us. We will immediately halt the payment process and try to identify the problem. We will then take the necessary measures to ensure that the translation or proofreading is of the necessary quality.
What variant of English are the documents translated into?
In most cases, both American and British English is accepted. If you have a preference, however, just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
