Tuition fees
The fees of the new EHEA degrees continue to be set by the Catalan Government. Although it may seem that the price of an ECTS credit is higher than before, the following example demonstrates how the total cost of the degree remains the same.
EXAMPLE
Until now to obtain a degree in Mathematics, each credit cost €15 and the total number of credits a student enrolled in was 300. Therefore, the degree cost a total of €4,500 (300x15). With the new EHEA degree in Mathematics, each credit costs €18.75 and the total number of credits is 240. The price thus remains the same, at €4,500 (240x18.75)
It is in the master's degrees where huge differences can be found. For the first time, official master's degree fees are subsided by the government and are much lower than those of other master's degrees. The Bologna process favours those enrolling in a master's or doctoral degree since they will be paying at a public rate and can apply for various study grants, as well as follow a compatible system from their undergraduate studies to their doctoral degree.
The price of official master's degrees at UAB for EU community students and foreign students with a residence permit is of approximately €30 per credit. Prices may vary depending of the decrees passed by the Catalan Government. Therefore, the average price of an official master's degree is €1,800 (for 60 credits), compared to the €3000 or €5000 students had to pay until now.
